Melissa, Crystal, and Suzette from Lafayette, IN USA all have a shared interest and passion in the more edgy side of the romantic genre, which reflects so beautifully in their handmade/vintage jewelry and accessories. I love the fact that they also bring new life to vintage pieces, making the old into something to be rediscovered as something fresh!
Their shop consists of gorgeous NeoVictorian/Victorian, Steampunk and Gothic inspired pieces from handstitched ribbon and beaded jewelry to hats and other cool things to adorn in your hair. I am peronally absolutely in love with their ribbon chokers and the gothic skeleton key necklace set. How awesome would they look with a beautiful corset?! Their work is unique, and whimiscal making your purchase extra special be it for yourself or for gifting someone you care about :) If you are interested in custom work then they are happy to take on board your preferences! Just get in touch with them in their store!

Maulani Felted Jewelry

Friday Finds... Maulani

Interview # 44
As a yarn lover I am always intrigued and inspired by all the creative things crafters can do with this medium. Knit, crocheted and felted goods are far and widely commonplace and darned cool nowadays which goes beyond the stereotype of the little old lady huddled knitting in the corner, that was always placed on yarn crafts. Now it's something that we can all aspire to do as a fun and relaxing hobby, can teach our kids without them eyeing us up as the definition of uncool, and for some it has become an artform outside of wearable garments, and even as jewelry! Dita Maulani is just one of those yarn crafters that likes to turn fibers into jewelry and makes some really great eye catching pieces that are trendy, bright and one of a kind. Not only that, but she also makes fabric jewelry and uses some great little findings for her metal pieces. Check out Dita's interview to find out more about her work and you can visit her store by clicking on any of the images or links in this post :)

-- Tell me a bit about you! (Name, Age, Location, and give us a random fact whilst you're at it.) Hello, I'm Dita Maulani from Bogor, a small city in West Java, Indonesia. I will celebrate my 23rd birthday this upcoming November 2nd and I love to sing.

-- What is your business about then? I love to craft, and I always think it's gonna be lovely to sell some of my handmade creations. Since I want to have one specialization on my Etsy shop, I chose needle felted necklace. I fall in love with needle felted instantly but still lack of technique so I decided to make necklace from felted balls.

-- How did Etsy come into your life? Found it via google and suddenly I got crush on listings on the front page then decided to make account on November 2009. But at the time I haven't done anything yet about my shop, I just made treasury and heart listings I love. I never feel enough of giving someone's shop or listing a heart. "I want to be hearted too!" my heart said. That was on August 2010. I finally opened my shop on August 5th.

-- Are you working a day job too? I'm a college graduate, will be on training for English teacher in one of English course in my city this September 20th. I'm working hard to get it as my day job (although I love crafting more than teaching English). Just wish me luck!

-- How long has the artist in you been 'unleashed' for? I don't know! Never thought I am an artist though but this past two years I never pass a day without crafting.

-- What has been the inspiration behind your business? Anything beautiful, especially needle felted creation or anything that is felted, inspires me! Seeing stunning photo of well-crafted handmade stuffs on Etsy can turn on my creative button!

-- If you could describe your products in three words, what would you tell me? Fun, bouncy, one-and-only

-- What would an average working day for you be like from dawn til dusk? 10 a.m until 4 p.m

-- What's your favourite material and techniques to work with? I love roving wool and I love needle felting technique! Still learn and way too far from perfect but I love to learn more technique.

-- What is your ideal vision for the future for you and your work? I want to stay in another country (if it's possible) to turn my craft hobby in real business. I would love to teach English in concentration camp too, or in an area where so many uneducated people live.

-- Away from work, what do you like to do for fun or to wind down? Hanging out with my boyfriend and friends is fun! Kicking back and relax at home with latte is fun too :)

-- What are you likely to search for on Etsy? Felt creation! Anything. I really love that material so anything that's made of felt, I must love it!

-- Any last words? I would love to hear from you! My Etsy shop is on sale, so make a visit if you have extra time ;)

OurHomeToYours

Friday Finds... OurHomeToYours

Interview # 43
For me as a mother one of the greatest things I like to do with my free time away from the mini me's is to make things with my hands. Once upon a time I would have had more of a mundane TV related existance to while away the hours, up until the discovery of my passion to knit and crochet and photography. OurHomeToYours for me defines the drive behind the passion of a mother to create! Although in this case it's 3 mothers :) I don't know, there's something I know in me that just switched on once I was about halfway through the pregnancy of my eldest, and the urge to click a shutter, needles and yarn hasn't stopped since! But along with that came all those other things you'd typically associate with a stay at home mom. Baking, art, glueing, role playing, music, gardening... It just seems a natural thing to do, and something I admire in all moms that take the leap and create for a living to share their passion with other people. OurHomeToYours is a strong team of moms using their talents together to make great fashion items accessories and offer vintage home decor goods.

(Just click the images to go direct to the listings)

-- Tell me a bit about you! (Name, Age, Location, and give us a random fact whilst you're at it.) Our Home To Yours is a shop with 3 members. I'm Debbi (the mom), Amanda is my daughter, and Alison is our mutual friend. Right now Amanda lives in Kansas, but will be moving back to NC at the end of this month. So all 3 of us will be in the same little area of NC. We are all stay at home mom's at this point of our lives. I'm homeschooling my 9 year old daughter, Amanda has a toddler that she chases around the house, and Alison has 2 beautiful boys, both pre-school age.

-- What is your business about then? Fun. And expressing ourselves with our art and crafts. What we do is more than a hobby, it's our stress relief and relaxation.

-- How did Etsy come into your life? Amanda and I were talking about how to supplement our income, while still being home and available for our kids. I don't remember who discovered Etsy first, but we discussed it for a while before giving it a try.

-- Are you working a day job too? HAHAHA We are homemakers with children. We're too busy for a day job.

-- How long has the artist in you been 'unleashed' for? For Amanda and I, all our lives. My mother was an artist, and I spent a lot of time at art shows while growing up. So I've always loved the smell of paints and pastels. Amanda has inherited her Nana's talent for fine art, and is finishing her Masters Degree in Graphic Design. Alison has just recently discovered the joy of sewing, and as you can tell by her pouches, she is very good at it.

-- What has been the inspiration behind your business? Everything, and anything! We do and create what makes us happy, and then hope others like what we do.

-- If you could describe your products in three words, what would you tell me? Everything, anything, ecclectic.

-- What would an average working day for you be like from dawn til dusk? Well, with being stay at home mothers, our days are anything but average. I know that I personally don't get to spend as much time as I like in my studio, but once I'm in there, I'm there for the day!

-- What's your favourite material and techniques to work with? Amanda and I both like to crochet. I love to pick up vintage items, and I've rediscovered the joy of working with pastel and paint. And Alison's wonderful husband just gave her a brand new sewing machine.

-- What is your ideal vision for the future for you and your work? We'd love for our shop to grow, but our joy is in the act of creating something beautiful. I hope we never lose that, no matter how much our business grows.

-- Away from work, what do you like to do for fun or to wind down? My husband and I like to ride our motorcycle and travel. Amanda and her husband enjoy spending time with friends. And Alison and her husband (who's a fantastic photographer) love nature and spending time outside.

-- What are you likely to search for on Etsy? Childrens items.

-- Any last words?Be sure to check our shop often, since we rarely (if ever) make the same thing twice. You can follow us on facebook and twitter, and we have a blog where I sometimes tell family secrets, lol. I also have a sister shop on Etsy, VintageVinyls, where I sell classic record albums of all different venues.

lotusmira

Tuesday - BESTeam Mosaic
weekly shoutout to the dedicated workers that like to help other handmade artists...

lotusmira on Etsy
... lotusmira on Etsy's store is full of gorgeous tile jewelry but with a difference. Each piece is crafted with the use of solder. I'd normally associate solder with computers and machines but this shop is just totally awesome for the innovation. Whether its a new concept to use solder in jewelry or not I'm not sure but it's certainly a first for me to see lovely images framed in the silver stuff :) Lotusmira loves all this vintage and enjoys steampunk which I think is well reflected in her jewelry. Check out the store or my 6 faves below in the mosaic to see more!

gardenmis on Etsy... gardenmis on Etsy has a quaint little store full of fabric flowers mostly, that look big, bold and girly! A perfect accessory to make a statement I'd say, for the designs are oh so vintage, and the fabrics used are eye catchers. Gardenmis is a proud wife with two daughters and a son that she loves very much, and from what I gather she has a great passion and enthusiasm for sewing! I have picked my favourites in the mosaic below which link directly to the listings if you give them a click!

TaylorHouse on Etsy

Tuesday - BESTeam Mosaic
weekly shoutout to the dedicated workers that like to help other handmade artists...

TaylorHouse on Etsy... Today's feature of a featurer is of Chaucee from Taylorhouse on Etsy. A great store hosting lovely items like knitted warmers like cowls and scarves, yet also boasting a lovely supply of vintage accessories. I'm very impressed with her skills in product photography too, some of the compositions are stunning and in terms of light she makes great use of what's given to her for each of her photographed items. Absolutely everything in that store is tempting just from looking at the photographs! I am a keen knitter myself so I am in love with her cowls and have included a few examples in her mosaic featured a little bit below. Well worth visiting her store!

And Her Blog
... is incredible. If you think her store photos are gorgeous you must check out her blog layout. So bright and absorbing. It took me a while to take my eyes off of her graphics and photographs... Serious awe! It's lovely when you find blogs that have a lot of html input and im guessing that Chaucee has dabbled in it a bit to make her blog look so beautiful. Even how she arranges her adverts is wonderful! This one has a great eye for style, and that's further emphasised by her posts featuring other great sellers from our handmade community. A link on the top left of the page even allows you to submit items for giveaways and submit entires for existing ones. This is definitely a busy blog, yet it shows with all the effort put into creating it! I'm a new enthusiastic follower! So please if you stop by her store, check out this beautious blog too and share your interest too :)
